PUBLIC IS ENCOURAGED TO COMMUNITY HALE KUʻI
AND FOOD FOREST PLANNING SESSION IN WAIKAPŪ
Hoaloha Farms in Waikapū, with the support of Hawaiʻi Farmers Union United’s Mauna Kahalawai Chapter, is building a community hale kuʻi to host ongoing kuʻi kalo (poi pounding) sessions and other cultural workshops. The group will also design and plant an adjacent food forest based on agroforesty and permaculture principles.

Get involved with this project by attending a planning meeting from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Hoaloha Farms in Waikapū. This is your chance to honor the staple crop of the Hawaiian diet and help bring culture back into agriculture. As the project moves forward, workshops and other educational farming activities will be offered.

During the event, HFUU board members will discuss the project vision and how you can get involved. This is a community-driven project, and ideas and kōkua are welcome. Lunch will be provided.

Participants will meet at the Maui Tropical Plantation parking lot at 11 a.m., then travel as a group to Hoaloha Farms. Pre-registration is required by sending an email to HFUUMaunaKahalawai@gmail.com. Please include your name and the number of people in your party.
