*** Haleakalā Chapter's 110th Consecutive Meeting***
KALAMA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL CAFETERIA
Doors Open 5:30 PM  •  Opening Circle 6:00 PM

Aloha Kākou,

Our first chapter meeting of the New Year is next Tuesday, January 28th in the cafeteria of Kalama Intermediate School on Makani Ave in Makawao. Doors open at 5:30. We will be starting as close to 6pm as possible.

Our featured speaker will be Richard “Buddy” Nichols, the Farm Loan Manager of the USDA’s Kahului branch of the Farm Service Agency. He will address tools that can help farmers become price makers instead of price takers. As any farmer knows too well, we only collect a tiny portion of the retail price for our products and even a tiny increase in our margin can make the difference between success and failure. Buddy is a dynamic speaker and this promises to be a talk you won’t want to miss.

We want to make our meetings as inclusive as possible and that includes parents. Please let all your friends know that children ages 3-13 are welcome to attend our free Junior Farmer Program. Our program director, Havilah Mills, always has exciting and innovative projects designed to entertain and inspire.

Here’s the full agenda:
  • 5:30 Doors open
  • 6:00-6:30 sign-up for open mic (10 people, 90-sec max)
  • 6:45 Open Mic
  • 7:55 President’s Update – Haleakala Chapter Food Hub
  • 7:00 VP National Update – Reba O’Day
  • 7:10 Buddy Nichols
  • 7:40 Harriet Witt
  • 7:50 Unraffle
  • 8:15 Pau & Cleanup

Please remember to bring your potluck dish. Entrée’s are encouraged. I hope to see you all there.

Mãhalo Nui Loa,

John Dobovan

Haleakalã Chapter President

As always, this meeting is a locavore potluck, and we appreciate you bringing enough food for yourself and some to share, or making a generous contribution so your chapter can continue populating the amazing food table we are known for.

We want you to bring your farm fresh goodies, cuttings and seeds to swap at the produce swap table, the more we all bring, the more abundance there will be at our meetings, and the better our personal inventories of plant cultivars on our farms will be as well.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Look for the suggestion box by the door when you enter the meeting and let us know what you'd like to see happening at our meetings. Please think about topics you'd like to explore in breakout sessions at future meetings, write them down and let us know.

Mahalo to all of you for supporting this organization. We are the change we are waiting for. Let’s keep working together to make Maui the agriculture paradise it will be.
