Lisa Rhoden, formerly with the Hawaii Ag. Foundation, is the new Director of Food Safety for the North Shore Economic Vitality partnership (NSEVP). She is working with Kevin Kelly to directly support farmers with GAP certification. The goal is to increase safety, competitiveness, and sales opportunities. As you know, incorporating GAP in small farm operations can be difficult, yet essential in the face of changing regulation and market competition.
USDA recently added Group GAP to its food safety repertoire and NSEVP would like to get that going for Oahu farmers to support economic efficiency through program cost-share. The NSEVP North Shore food hub plans to addresses the need for small farmers to aggregate product and sell more of it, connect with chefs and distributors to identify product needs, establish bulk pricing and product lists, etc. They invite you to attend an outreach meeting this month to learn about organizational goals and secure your feedback.
