Aloha Kākou,

Our next Haleakala Chapter meeting is Tuesday, May 28th in the cafeteria of Kalama Intermediate School on Makani Ave in Makawao. Please note that you should use the upper parking lot, adjacent to the cafeteria and administration building.  If that lot fills up, we will open the lower gate for additional parking.

HFUU-Haleakala Junior Farmers Program
We are continuing to offer our Junior Farmers Program with ag-centric activities for ages 3+ in a separate room under the direction of Havilah Mills. Participation is free, just sign up your child(ren) at the membership desk upon arrival. This is a great program that goes far beyond just baby-sitting and we ask that you let your friends and neighbors know this is now available.

We have another great slate of presentations this month, including the always-amazing Georgia Pinsky, Harriet Witt, and Lehn Huff will give us an update on the Farm-to-School Program.
Candace Shaw, Marketing Director for the Festival Companies, will tell us how she is completely revamping the Farmer’s Market at the Shops at Wailea. This could be a great opportunity for additional produce sales. I’m personally interested in finding a way that we farmers can hui up to collectively sell our produce.

Lastly, your Board of Directors is planning a special event in July – instead of our regular monthly meeting we are looking at having a special event at one of our member’s farms.  Lots to discuss this month and I hope we get a good showing to discuss and plan.

Mãhalo Nui Loa,

John Dobovan

Haleakalã Chapter President

As always, this meeting is a locavore potluck, and we appreciate you bringing enough food for yourself and some to share, or making a generous contribution so your chapter can continue populating the amazing food table we are known for.

We want you to bring your farm fresh goodies, cuttings and seeds to swap at the produce swap table, the more we all bring, the more abundance there will be at our meetings, and the better our personal inventories of plant cultivars on our farms will be as well.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Look for the suggestion box by the door when you enter the meeting and let us know what you'd like to see happening at our meetings. Please think about topics you'd like to explore in breakout sessions at future meetings, write them down and let us know.

Mahalo to all of you for supporting this organization. We are the change we are waiting for. Let’s keep working together to make Maui the agriculture paradise it will be.
