What is Kahaluu Community Kui? Kahaluu Community Kui is an ohana-centered kalo pounding workshop specializing in improving the ability to make 10 pounds of kalo into poi for daily consumption. The hands-on portion of this workshop is best for ages 6 and up, but there is lots of room for keiki to play and watch. Cooked kalo is $5 per pound and includes: Access to many different papa and pohaku kuiai, ozone and filtered water, and everything else you need to kui your own kalo. Kalo can be paid for online or in cash on the day you come.

Please be understanding that our farm is located next to a residential community. We accommodate 10 vehicles on site. If the makai gate of the property is open, pull in SLOWLY. There are often keiki playing onsite. When parking on the street, be mindful of the neighborhood. Make sure to smile and wave at our neighbors. Cars do drive fast on Ahuimanu Road, so please double check when crossing the road, and keep an extra eye on your keiki.

This is a food and culture workshop on a farm, and we love animals but ask you to leave yours at home. Food safety is of the highest concern and so is the safety of the farm livestock. This is a subsistence farm, and we live on what we grow and make. The best attire is comfortable and cool but not too loose. Ladies, our papa kuiai are elevated on benches, so short dresses are not recommended.

If you have any questions, call (808) 542-1326.

Mahalo a nui loa and we are so excited to make and share kalo traditions with you all,

Hui Aloha ʻĀina Momona ʻOhana
