Vincent Mina and his wife Irene have owned and operated "Kahanu Aina Greens" (Breath of the Land Greens) since 1994. Today it's considered the largest, smallest farm in Hawai'i producing on average 600 pounds of greens each week all grown in a plant based compost on 2000 square feet.

The Mina Family

Vince will be discussing how his family began building a successful farming career while exploring the relationship between the body and soil. They realized the importance of a healthy and vital soil system while growing their food supply so they set out to open a chapter of the National Farmers Union formed in Hawaii. They produced twelve on-farm "Body and Soil" conferences from 2001-2013. They had presenters from around the world bring their knowledge and experience to Maui. These actions led them to a greater awareness on both state and national levels and set out the opportunity for Vincent to become the Chair of Natl. Farmers Union special committee "Regenerative Agriculture Local Food" (RALF).

Presentation: Vincent will give a hands on experience of what humus rich compost and vermi-compost looks like, smells like and feels like. He'll also share a pictorial path of their journey to educate and inspire those in attendance to think differently about the relationship between the body and the soil.

The Common Ground Collective Team is a unique and extremely passionate group of individuals with experience in sustainable sciences, business management, research, agriculture, politics, law and the hospitality industry. We want to use our expertise to help our community, our environment and the current socioeconomic culture.
