HAIKU COMMUNITY CENTER
Doors Open 5:30 PM • Opening Circle 6:00 PM

Aloha Kākou,

The holiday season is upon us, and Makahiki is here as well. At this month’s meeting, we celebrate the bounty of the ‘āina and with your participation will come together to support our growing and vibrant agriculture community.

Because of the lightning storm, power outage and flash flooding that occurred Tuesday, October 24, we cancelled that meeting, as it was a difficult day for many of us. Now we have our last meeting of 2017 where we will have the honor of having the Chapter Vice-President John Dobovan present on his aquaponic system in Kula that produces rainbow trout and organic water cress.

Kulahaven hatchery & grow beds

Following that, we will show our collective support for one of Maui’s newest nonprofits, the Common Ground Collective (CGC), who have recently formed to support agriculture and our ohana of regenerative Maui farmers. Jennifer Karaca, Executive Director of the CGC will present on who they are and what they are going to be doing in the next year.

Do you like this agenda?
If you have recommendations for future events, please let your representative on the Board know what you would like your HFUU Haleakala Chapter to be doing. Email haleakala-president@hfuuhi.org with recommendations, comments, questions or concerns about your chapter.

As always, this meeting is a locavore potluck, and we appreciate you bringing enough food for yourself and some to share, or making a generous contribution so your chapter can continue populating the amazing food table we are known for.

We want you to bring your farm fresh goodies, cuttings and seeds to swap at the produce swap table, the more we all bring, the more abundance there will be at our meetings, and the better our personal inventories of plant cultivars on our farms will be as well. Sharing is caring, let’s make it happen! The three top givers of the most abundant swap items will be given complimentary deserts with the tickets for the un-raffle.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Look for the suggestion box by the door when you enter the meeting and let us know what you'd like to see happening at our meetings. Please think about topics you'd like to explore in breakout sessions at future meetings, write them down and let us know.

Mahalo to all of you for supporting this organization. We are the change we are waiting for. Let’s keep working together to make Maui the agriculture paradise it will be.

With aloha,

Simon Russell

HFUU-Haleakalā Chapter
President
