Do you like this agenda? If you have recommendations for future events, please let your representative on the Board know what you would like your HFUU Haleakala Chapter to be doing. Email haleakala-president@hfuuhi.org with recommendations, comments, questions or concerns about your chapter.

First off, we want to thank our amazing organizers and volunteers (you know who you are), without whom we would not be the organization we are today.

We also want to mahalo Tempo of the Heart (a 501C3) organization for the June 2nd First Friday event in Wailuku that they organized with us to benefit Manao Radio and HFUU .

Huge mahalos to Corky Byer and Keith Ranney for setting it up, Megan Powers for MC'ing, and to Lynne and Dennis for doing the silent auction. Mahalo to the performing artists Pat Simmons Jr., Steven Von Linne and Tropical Spice, Deborah Vial and Band, and Kanekoa. Mahalo also to our farmers who donated so much local produce for the prize produce baskets. What a blessing to have the community come together for great music at the Iao Theatre. Mahalo to all that attended event!

At our monthly meetings, you will begin to feel some of the changes your board is building in to these events. Your board is making efforts to assist the transition of Maui away from the old plantation model, toward a sustainable family farming future for our rural and agricultural communities in our Haleakalā region. This is why your input at the suggestion box is so important. Your suggestions will be considered at the monthly Board meeting, and your suggestions will be a part of the direction of the organization. We are experimenting with a new model of community engagement, combined with our traditional structure of agricultural education, entertainment and amazing food.

In the spirit of bringing in the new, at this month’s meeting on 6/27 we are inviting future farmers who will graduate from the FAM program on June 29. They will share the experience of being a farmer apprentice with you. Vicki Shortell, Alex Pinsky, Georgia Pinsky (Alex and Georgia are siblings), and Elizabeth Baretto will share what it is like to learn with some of Maui’s most accomplished farmers.

In the spirit of the transition towards Maui’s farming future, we also have Jim Hammett, who along with others from Maui North Shore Community are working towards creating a Community Development Corporation, owned by the community, for the purposes of developing the Old Maui High location for the public benefit.

As always, this meeting is a locavore potluck, and we appreciate you bringing enough food for yourself and some to share, or making a generous contribution so your chapter can continue populating the amazing food table we are known for.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Look for the suggestion box by the door when you enter the meeting and let us know what you'd like to see happening at our meetings. Please think about topics you'd like to explore in breakout sessions at future meetings, write them down and let us know.

Me ke aloha pumehana,

Imua HFUU Haleakalā !

FARMER NEWS & UPDATES
Does anyone want to rent a small house off-the-grid in Hanawana Valley, at the end, with an ocean view on two acres? Current tenant has until Oct. 30. Since it's about a half hour from Paia from the road, Owner asks tenant to remove own trash, mow the smallish front yard & try to upkeep the place in exchange for a reasonable rent.
